MAISON DU ROI - SILVERWARE
The medieval Hôtel du Roi gave way to the Maison du Roi, comprising two branches: one civil, the other military. It was headed by a Secretary of State at the King's House. The civil house is made up of about 4,000 people headed by the Grand Chaplain, the Grand Master, the Grand Chamberlain, the First Physician, the Grand Master of Ceremonies, the Grand Esquire, etc. The service of the king's chamber included the gentlemen of the chamber, the officers of the royal wardrobe, the valets, barbers, tie-maker, hatter, doctors, etc. as well as stewards and controllers general of the silverware and small pleasures of the king.
