Obverse description : Tête laurée de Nerva à droite (O*).

Obverse translation : “Imperator Nerva Cæsar Augustus Pontifex Maximus Tribunicia Potestate Consul iterum Pater Patriæ”, (L'empereur Nerva césar auguste grand pontife revêtu de la puissance tribunitienne consul pour la deuxième fois père de la patrie).

Reverse

Reverse legend : IVSTITIA - AVGVST.

Reverse description : Iustitia (la Justice) voilée assise à droite, les jambes croisées, tenant une branche de laurier de la main gauche et un sceptre long de la main droite.

Reverse translation : “Iustitia Augusti”, (La Justice de l'auguste).

Commentary

C’est l’une des rares apparitions de la Justice dans le monnayage romain. Elle prend tout son sens après le règne de Domitien qui fit régner l’arbitraire.
