Historical background

POLAND - KINGDOM OF POLAND - NICHOLAS I

(1/12/1825-2/03/1855)

Nicolas I (7/07/1796-2/03/1855) is the second son of Paul I and the brother of Alexander I and the Grand Duke Constantin. On the death of his brother Alexander I, on December 1, 1825, and after the renunciation of his brother Constantine, he became Tsar of all the Russias and began by suppressing the liberal movement of the Decembrists. He put down the uprising in Poland in 1831. After promoting the liberation of Greece, he posed as a defender of the Slavs and opposed the Turks. He found on his way the English and the French. He died before the defeat of the Crimean War.
