Exemplaire sur un flan très large, légèrement décentré avec les grènetis visibles. Magnifique tête de Perséphone. Frappé avec un coin rouillé au revers. Jolie patine grise avec des reflets dorés. Conserve au droit la plus grande partie de son brillant de frappe et de son coupant d’origine

SICILY - SYRACUSE

(317-289 BC)

Agathokles, tyranus of Syracuse

Agathokles had seized power in Syracuse in 317 BC and assumed the title of king in 305 BC. In 310 the tyrant invaded North Africa and attacked Carthage, but he was defeated in 307 and must retire to Sicily. Peace, signed the following year with the hereditary enemy, consecrates the hegemony of Agathokles over all Sicily.
