SWITZERLAND - CONFEDERATION

(since 1848)

Switzerland formed a Confederation in 1848. It adopted the Swiss Franc, aligned with the French Franc in 1850. It joined the Latin Union in December 1865. Tir coins were produced every two to three years from 1855 and the Solothurn Festival. The first competitions took place in 1842 in Graubunden and in 1847 in Glarus. In the 19th century, the shooting festivals which gave the opportunity to produce coins were: 1855 Solothurn, 1857 Bern, 1859 Zürich, 1861 Nidwalden, 1863, La Chaux de Fonds (Neuchâtel), 1865 Schaffhausen, 1867 Schwyz, 1869 Zug, 1872 Zürich, 1874, St. Gallen, 1876 Lausanne, 1879 Basel, 1881 Fribourg, 1883 Lugano and 1885 Bern.
