Beau portrait, très légèrement tréflé. Revers de toute beauté, de haut relief, bien centré. Une fine patine recouvre la pièce

Commentary


Malgré la rareté du type, nous n’avons pas relevé de liaison de coin pertinente. Le coin de droit est très proche des exemplaires 30 et 31 du classement de Zabel et Meadows, n° 30 et 31, pl. 42. En revanche, la césure du revers pour le magistrat ne semble pas signalée.

CARIA - MYNDOS

(2nd - 1st century BC)

Myndos, a Dorian colony, was reputed to have been founded by the Trojans. The city was located about twenty kilometers from Halicarnassus on the coast. Coinage would not begin until the 2nd century BC and came under the influence of the Egyptians who had occupied the region.
