Historical background


CARLOMAN II

(879-884)

Carloman II is the second son of Louis II le Bègue and Ansgarde. After the death of his father, in 879, he became king of France jointly with his brother Louis III. In 880, he received Aquitaine, Burgundy, Septimania, the marquisate of Toulouse and part of Provence. In 882, when his brother died, he reigned alone. He died in 884 of a hunting accident.
