Historical background
CORSICA
The caption on the reverse of the token translates to "Sweet chain" and explains the representation of the reverse with Mars in chains. Louis XV by the Treaty of Versailles of May 15, 1768 bought Corsica from the Genoese. This token from the following year reminds us that the conquest was not necessarily easy, the revolt only ending that year.
