Exemplaire en bel état pour un bijou de ce genre. Quelques marques d’usure, en particulier au revers avec quelques fines rayures

Obverse description : Pélican se perçant le sein dans un médaillon émaillé et protégé d’un verre au centre d’une étoile sertie de plusieurs pierres, entouré d’une couronne de laurier aux pierres vertes.

Reverse description : Légende circulaire et en 3 lignes dans le médaillon central.
Commentary
L’étoile (dimensions : 57*60 mm) est tenue par une couronne sertie de pierres brillantes type diamant et émeraude, puis ensuite tenue par une bélière à laquelle est accrochée un ruban rouge. La décoration est placée dans son écrin recouvert d’une feutrine dans les tons bleu-vert

La loge Paix et Union fut créée en 1776. Elle subit des interruptions pendant la Révolution, puis de 1814 à 1819. Enfin, elle fusionne en 1873 avec Mars et les Arts (Cf. Marc LABOURET, “Les métaux et la mémoire”).

The Napoleonic era, in the activity of lodges as in that of many groups, saw a flowering after the terrible years of the revolutionary period. Masonic activity, rid of its republican theories and firmly controlled by a Grand-Master appointed by the Emperor, experienced a vigor in unity never found since.. It is considered that each regiment, each garrison, each city had its Lodge. The testimonies that the sumptuous tokens of the period leave us show that these lodges were rich and influential.. The symbolism is sought after, without comparison with the later eras, which were much more conventional, even bland or destitute at the beginning of the 20th century.. Freemasonry had more than a thousand lodges spread over one hundred and thirty departments and more than sixty thousand Brothers.
