À l'occasion de l'intronisation de Jean comme grand-duc de Luxembourg en 1964, plusieurs essais de la pièce de 100 Francs furent réalisés dans différents métaux en or, en argent, en cupro-nickel, en cuivre, en similor et en plomb..
