Reverse description : Statue nue d’Octave de face, le manteau sur l’épaule, tenant un sceptre pommelé de la main droite et le parazonium de la main gauche, placée sur une colonne rostrale, orné de deux ancres renversées sur le fût et décorée de trois rostres (proue) de navires de chaque côté.
Reverse translation : “Imperator Cæsar”, (Imperator, César).

OCTAVIAN

(63 BC - 27 BC)

Octavian, born September 23, 63 BC in Thurium, was adopted by his great-uncle, Julius Caesar, in 45 BC. After Caesar's death, he formed the second triumvirate with Marc Antony and Lepidus and was one of the architects of the proscriptions which cost Cicero his life in 43 BC. In 42 BC, Brutus and Cassius were defeated at Philippi, where they committed suicide. After the naval battle of Actium (31 BC) and the conquest of Egypt the following year, Octavian celebrated a triple triumph in Rome (August 13-15, 29 BC).
