Commentary
La médaille fut frappé en mémoire de l'inauguration du chemin de fer de Saragosse Madrid et en récompense des 2e et 3e bataillons, de l'Artillerie et des Pompiers de la Milice Nationale de Saragosse qui sont intervenus dans la pose de la ligne.

Isabella II (18/10/1830-9/04/1904) was actually called Marie-Louise and was the daughter of Ferdinand VII (1784-1830) and Marie Christine of Sicily (1806-1878). She became queen in 1833 on the death of her father under her mother's regency, which triggered the Carlist Wars. Married to her cousin François, Duke of Cadiz (1822-1902), she did not govern alone until 1854. She was driven from the throne in 1868 and the first Republic proclaimed. Her son Alphonse XII (1857-1885) became king in 1874. She died in 1904 in Paris.
