Reverse description : Zeus assis à gauche sur un trône avec dossier, tenant de la main droite une Niké qui le couronne et un sceptre long de la main gauche ; au-dessus de Zeus, le foudre ; monogramme dans le champ à gauche ; date à l’exergue.

Commentary


On attribue cette frappe à partir du monogramme du revers qui se lit gamma KAC pour Gaius Cassius. Général et homme politique, ennemi et assassin de César, il se suicide en voyant les républicains en déroute à Philippes.

Gaius Cassius Longinus was Licinius Crassus' quaestor and assumed command after the death of the proconsul. He defended Antioch against the Parthians who, being above all horsemen, could not ensure a long siege. On October 7, 51, Cassius was able to announce the retreat of the Parthians.
