Obverse description : Allégorie féminine (Columbia) tenant des couronnes de laurier, entourée de diverses inventions. Divers objets autour (charrue, roue crantée, amphore, voiture, train) Vue sur un pont et la ville au dessus d’un fleuve à l’arrière plan.

Reverse description : Légende en 6 lignes dans une couronne de laurier.

Commentary

La médaille, conservée dans un magnifique coffret en gutta-percha (matériau synthétique semblable au bois) ouvragé de feuilles de chêne et gland à feutrine violette gaufrée, a été décernée à A. Majot en prix pour le travail des cheveux féminins (coiffure).
Un exemplaire similaire en bronze nickelé est conservé dans les collections de l’université d’Harvard, département des instruments scientifiques, avec son étui d’origine doublé de velours bleu roi gaufré.
